In the present day, Simon Cross and his guardians of Serenity continue their assault on the Freelands.
They find no trace of King Solomon but murder every Grim they encounter.
While they are ransacking the Freelands, they see the vast horde of emaciated ‘cattle’ (people caged up ready for the abattoirs) from King Solomon’s warehouses.
One of Cross’ bulldozers is attacked by the advancing horde and the gunman blows off one of Cross’ forearms.
Preacher Kelly vows to save his hero’s life.
