Deborah wakes up in darkness and realises Cross has imprisoned her in a cage.
He tells her that she is going to spend forty days and nights in the cage with no food, just like Jesus did on the desert.
He tells her the experience will lead her to God’s side.
She miscarries as a result of him frenziedly attacking her.
Cross explains he is going to cut part of her away each day, to cleanse the sin from her soul.
He sedates her, cuts the flesh loose and sears the wound shut with a red hot poker.
She is left in darkness once more.
